Giving Advice to Clients

At the very centre of the CAB service are the volunteer advisers, without them we cannot function and in order for the service to develop and expand we need more.

If you are able to give a minimum of 10 hours per week, are willing to undertake a six to eight month training course and continual update training (to be a full generalist adviser) or a shorter training period to be a gateway assessor and like working with and on behalf of people then this could be the volunteer job for you.

In return we will support you all through your career with us and give you a training which is nationally recognised.  We also endeavour to cover any expenses you incur whilst acting as a volunteer for us.

Once trained you will become part of a team of advisers dealing with an enormous range of generalist advice enquiries covering topics from debt management to changing a name.    If there is a particular area of advice work which you feel you would like to specialise in then we can make training available to you to enable this to happen so you could become an employment specialist or a debt caseworker!   And through all of this we support and develop you to give the best possible advice to our clients. If you recognise yourself in the above description don’t hesitate to contact us.

Other equally important volunteer roles we are looking for:

Fundraisers

We would very much like to recruit a number of people who would be prepared to give 3 or 4 half days per year (more if possible) to support the fund raising work of the Bureau by helping with collections, stewarding events, serving behind a stall, handing out publicity and generally being useful.   If you feel you could do this then please let us know either by filling out the application form for volunteering below and marking it “Fund Raising Team” or by contacting the Manager – Andrew Banfield on 01242 531301 email abanfield@cheltenhamcab.org.uk     Thank you
